Forum International Météo et Climat 2026 — Media Workshop
· ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy · In-person + hybrid
Theme: “Building climate narratives in an era of crisis”
Structure: Two panels and the launch of the Climate Media Task Force.
Organizers
Forum International de la Météo et du Climat (FIMC) — 23rd edition; 23 years positioning climate communication (Christian Vannier, founder and director).
European Space Agency (ESA) · ESRIN — host of the meeting (Simonetta Cheli, Director of Earth Observation and Head of ESRIN).
Filantropía Cortés Solari / Fundación MERI — international partner and organizer of the theme “Building climate narratives in an era of crisis”.
Background
- The Forum Météo-Climat is the main international meeting for meteorological and climate communication.
- Its 23rd edition is held at ESA-ESRIN focusing on Earth observation, artificial intelligence, and communication for climate adaptation, bringing together over 500 participants from 74 countries, in in-person and hybrid formats, and in two official languages (English and French).
- Trust in science is facing an unprecedented crisis: only about 40% of the public trusts the news, while interest in climate information is declining, and 7 out of 10 environmental journalists report attacks or pressure.
- In this context, communication is no longer a mere act of dissemination but has become an essential tool of modern multilateralism and the fight against the Triple Crisis.
- Origin of the initiative: The Climate Media Task Force arises from the 5th Blue Economy Round Table (Monaco, March 2025), convened by Filantropía Cortés Solari, through Fundación MERI, and the Centre Scientifique de Monaco.
Objectives of Session C of the Forum Meteo Climat
- Reposition climate communication as a strategic pillar of conservation, multilateralism, and the Triple Crisis.
- Rebuild trust in science and combat disinformation and climate skepticism.
- Make visible the North-South narrative asymmetries and the geopolitical role of climate communication.
- Present the Climate Media Task Force as a concrete contribution to the Paris Agreement and the 30×30 Goals, consolidating the coordinating leadership of FCS-MERI.
